MARK MAYFIELD is co-founder of MM Publishing Inc. He comes to the new firm after more than three years as editor-in-chief of House Beautiful in New York, where he was responsible for the entire editorial content of the nation's oldest home magazine. 

Prior to House Beautiful, Mayfield served as editor-in-chief of three other major consumer magazines: Traditional Home, Southern Accents, and Art & Antiques. He was also the founding editor-in-chief of InCircle Entree, a custom-published magazine for Neiman Marcus's top customers.

 

Previously, Mayfield had a unique role in American media as one of the original founding staff members of USA Today, the national newspaper--where he spent 10 years as an editor and writer. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he was editor of the campus newspaper, The Crimson White, during his senior year. He was named the university's most outstanding graduate in journalism in 1978, and later, in 1992, was named the school's outstanding alumnus in journalism.

He currently serves on the Board of Governors for the College of Communication and Information Services at the University of Alabama. He is married with four children and lives in Westchester County, New York.

 

 

DEBORAH L. MARTIN is co-founder of MM Publishing, Inc., coming to the firm after nine years as managing editor of House Beautiful in New York.

Martin's career spans 19 years in the publishing industry, beginning in 1987 with the News Corporation, where she worked in the advertising divisions of The STAR and New Woman Magazine. In 1989 she moved to House Beautiful, first as the assistant managing editor and then as managing editor from 1996 to 2005. In that capacity she not only oversaw the production of the magazine, but also managed the editorial budget, negotiated contracts with photographers and contributors and contributed creatively to the overall look and design of the magazine.

During her tenure as managing editor, House Beautiful became the first magazine in the Hearst Corporation stable to bring color correction of images in-house, allowing the editors total control over the look of the magazine, and saving the company money in the process. She became the number two editor under Mark Mayfield, and together they created a dramatic redesign of House Beautiful .

Martin was born in New York and is a graduate of Drew University in Madison, N.J., where she earned a degree in Literature. She has also studied painting at the Art Student's League of New York. She currently lives in Hoboken, N.J., with her husband of 10 years.
